The Mathematics Behind Your EAPCET Rank
The EAPCET ranking system is unique because it doesn't rely solely on your performance in the entrance examination. To ensure that students do not neglect their board exams, the counseling authority uses a combined weightage system: 75% weightage to EAPCET marks and 25% weightage to Intermediate (10+2) group subjects.
Step 1: Calculate the EAPCET Weightage (Out of 75)
The EAPCET exam is conducted for a total of 160 marks (80 Math, 40 Physics, 40 Chemistry).
Formula: (Your EAPCET Score / 160) × 75
Step 2: Calculate the IPE Weightage (Out of 25)
This is where many students get confused. The 25% weightage is NOT calculated on your overall 1000 marks. It is calculated strictly on your Group Subjects (Maths, Physics, Chemistry) from both 1st and 2nd year, including practicals.
The total maximum marks for MPC group subjects in AP/TS boards is 600.
Formula: (Your Group Score / 600) × 25
Step 3: Calculate the Total Combined Score (Out of 100)
Simply add the two values together.
Total Score: 56.25 (EAPCET) + 23.75 (IPE) = 80.00 points
Normalization Process
Because the EAPCET is conducted across multiple days and shifts, the difficulty level of the question paper can vary. To ensure fairness, the authorities apply a complex mathematical "Normalization Formula."
This formula adjusts the marks of students in harder shifts slightly upwards and those in easier shifts slightly downwards, bringing everyone to a uniform baseline before calculating the 75% weightage.
Why the 25% IPE Weightage Matters
Even a 1 or 2 point difference in the final combined score can shift your rank by thousands. A student who scored 100 in EAPCET but has 590/600 in IPE will often achieve a significantly better rank than a student who scored 110 in EAPCET but only 450/600 in IPE.
*Note: During the COVID-19 pandemic years, this 25% weightage was temporarily scrapped, but it has since been reinstated.* Use the TechWorsh Marks Calculator to instantly compute these fractions without manual math.
